Schools’ Outreach

Art & Biodiversity

Westbury Primary School

20 May 2022

Today our outreach took us to Westbury Primary School. Thanks to the Principal and Staff we were able to engage beautiful young minds on the topic of trees and their importance. We reintroduced them to the Sugar Apple fruit with a lively story penned by the director, on 'Angie's visit to the market', and read by Programme Assistant Lian Gittens.

The children then had the tactile experience of handling the fruit and then colouring a page from our soon to be launched colouring book. A Sugar Apple tree was also donated to the school. This was a very good day.

A. Dacosta Primary School

27 May 2022

Our outreach at A. Dacosta Edwards Primary school proved to be an uplifting experience. These beautiful young minds again embraced our ideas about biodiversity and plant knowledge and shared with us their insight. Our focus is reconnecting the youth to their heritage knowledge and the Sugar Apple was our tree/fruit of the day.

This school is nestled in the rural community of Belleplaine, St. Andrew, within the Key Biodiversity Area of the Scotland District, and the students were excited to show us how much they knew. Their expression and exploration with colour brought the page extracted from our colouring book, Yabisis Guada, to life.

Warrens Primary School

4 April 2023

Today BERP was welcomed by the Principal of Warrens Primary School and Ms. Scantlebury, class teacher, as we donated copies of Yabisi Guada (Tree Garden). The enthusiasm expressed by the children as we looked through the heritage plant coloring book was inspiring. We will be launching our alphabet chart with this school.
